Yes Virginia, There Is A Person Behind The Company
Some may see corporations as faceless entities so it's sometimes hard to know real people actually work there. Do you have to go through several buttons on the phone to talk to someone? Do you write to them and only get an automated response? It makes me wonder if small companies attempt to give the impression that they are bigger so they can attract new clients.Maybe it's this perception that we use to select with whom we will do business. If you want to buy a fancy new widget, do you immediately go to Widgets Depot or have you considered giving Bob the Widget Guy an opportunity to get your business?
Maybe you feel safer giving your money to a more established company. After all, if they've been in business for several years, they must be the best at it? Right? How can a smaller company offer the same quality at the same or lower price? If that is true, how does the small company ever get bigger?
As as small business, I can relate to the difficulties in competing against the big boys. This is especially true a crowded market and a down economy. I'm sure many others could say the same thing about their business.
So why are we still doing it? For me, it's because I really love it. It's an opportunity to meet new people, learn about new businesses and feel alive. It's the joy I get when I can help someone achieve their own goals or learn something new. How about you?
